The beginning

Anatolia Today is a communication project launched in 2023, but that started to be planned almost 4 years before, right before the coronavirus pandemic. As a group of people devoted to bring closer Turkey and its reality to the public, the hispanatolia.com team (a website that has been informing about Turkey and Eurasia in Spanish since 2007) discussed the idea of creating a new website with the same objectives and philosophy, but directed to the English-speaking public, in order to get to a broader spectrum of readers.

Of course the project was not easy at all, not just because of managing a whole new website, but because of doing it a foreign language; but we decided that the idea deserved a try, and took the decision to go ahead with the project… The coronavirus pandemic, however, sadly thwarted much of our plans, impacting directly in our budget because of the economic crisis, and leaving us with fewer resources to carry out our dreams.

The project becomes reality

In October 2023, finally, and after fighting against many obstacles, the project became a reality under the name of Anatolia Today, a name that represents the same philosophy that we have been following during more than a decade at hispanatolia.com: that is, to bring Turkey, its hot news and its reality, closer to the public, overcoming barriers (language, geographical, cultural, etc.) and existing prejudices, and helping to strengthen the growing political, cultural, economic ties, etc. between the English-speaking countries and Turkey.

Anatolia Today website

As a news website, anatoliatoday.com will always offer information from a totally different point of view than other media, thanks to the real and first-hand experience and knowledge we have about the Turkish world: this is what makes our difference, and what we hope will turn Anatolia Today into a reference website to be informed about Turkey.

Our team

Our team of regular collaborators, including both those who regularly contribute with content to the website and those who perform other support or necessary tasks for its operation, includes the following people:

Pablo Gómez

Pablo Gómez

As a history lover, Pablo was captivated by Turkey from the first day he visited it in 2006: he got married there, has a house there… and has since become an expert on Turkey’s current affairs. With a long experience in media, he has been at the helm of hispanatolia.com since 2011, and now also of anatoliatoday.com

Roberto Mejide

Roberto Mejide

He is the “old man” of the team, as we like to call him, although he still has a long way to go. A tireless traveller, he has travelled halfway around the world… and pretends to visit the other half!! A political science graduate, he is particularly passionate about the Middle East, the Caucasus and Greece.

Javier Meirós

Javier Meirós

For Javier, sport is more than just a hobby, it is part of his life: he not only likes to follow it, but also to play it. A fan of the Turkish league, he won’t say whether he prefers Beşiktaş, Galatasaray or Fenerbahçe… But he also has his favourite!

Laura Torimbia

Laura Torimbia

Licensed in tourism, Laura loves travelling and discovering new places, cultures and people; and of course, one of her favourite places to enjoy a good holiday is Turkey, where she even worked as a tour guide. There are few places in Anatolia that she hasn’t visited… so she is the one who advises the rest of us when we travel.

Mónica Suárez

Mónica Suárez

When Monica finished her business degree, she had the idea to celebrate it travelling: that’s how she ended up visiting Turkey, and she liked it so much… that she decided to stay and live there! And she is still there, reporting from the city of Bursa on the latest news about the interesting Turkish economy.

Ahmet F. Kahraman

Ahmet F. Kahraman

He is one of the Turkish members of our team. When we met Ahmet, we were delighted that he spoke Spanish… but what definitely won our hearts was his hospitality at his home in Istanbul. He is the one who takes care of the social media, and any issues with the website. Sometimes, he even writes a post!
