Turkish series triumph in Colombia

Colombia does not escape the success of the Turkish series: Elif, Kara Para Aşk, or the Magnificent Century triumph among Colombians.

Turkish series, broadcasted successfully in more than 150 countries and which have become especially popular in countries such as Spain, Russia or Pakistan, also triumph in Colombia, where acording to Turkish media they are among the most watched programs on television, according to a recent study.

The study confirms that Turkish soap operas, which have been sweeping throughout Latin America since 2014, have also managed to carve out a niche in the Colombian television market, where the most watched Turkish series is Elif; other series with great success in Colombia are Kara Para Aşk (“Black Money Love”, called in Colombia “El Brillo Del Amor”), Muhteşem Yüzyıl (“The Magnificent Century”, titled in Spanish “El Sultán”), and Ezel.

The Turkish news agency Anatolia reported this week that Colombia is precisely one of the Latin American countries to which Turkey exports the most television productions, to the point that many television networks in that country have begun broadcasting Turkish series in prime time, due to the enormous demand they have.

The success of Turkish series in Colombia is also causing another curious phenomenon, which is not exclusive to this country: in recent years the number of Colombians interested in learning the Turkish language has skyrocketed; Turkish series also inspire new names for children in Colombia and other Latin American countries, where many parents want to name their children after their favourite Turkish characters and actors.
