Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu confirmed that Turkey is in contact with the two parties in conflict in Sudan to try to negotiate a ceasefire. “Both parties are our brothers, why would we position ourselves on one side? We are negotiating with both parties, we are negotiating to stop the conflict,” said Çavuşoğlu, hoping that the fighting, which has already left more than 300 civilians dead, will cease in the next few hours. Ankara hopes to be able to evacuate Turkish citizens in Khartoum as soon as the airspace reopens this Thursday; many countries, including several European ones, have requested Turkey’s help to evacuate their own citizens as well, according to Çavuşoğlu.
