Turkey to produce Chinese coronavirus vaccine

The Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac has included Turkey in the list of 5 countries that were granted a license to produce the coronavirus vaccine.

Turkey will produce the Chinese vaccine against the coronavirus developed by the pharmaceutical company Sinovac, which has shown an effectiveness of 83% according to studies carried out by Turkish scientists, according to information published in the media of the Eurasian country.

According to these information, the Chinese pharmaceutical company Sinovac has granted a license to Turkey to mass-manufacture doses of its vaccine; Sinovac CEO Yin Weidong would have assured that Turkey has been included among the 5 countries to which the company has granted a production license to manufacture the vaccine, thus joining Indonesia, Brazil, Malaysia and Egypt.

Turkey had previously signed an agreement with Sinovac to receive 100 million doses of its vaccine, although Turkish authorities have acknowledged delivery delays due to high demand for COVID-19 vaccines around the world. Today, another shipment of CoronaVac – the vaccine developed by Sinovac – arrived in Ankara, although the number of doses delivered was not reported.

Turkey has vaccinated more than 25.3 million people to date, and more than 10 million Turkish citizens have already received two doses of the vaccine. Turkey began vaccination in January with the Chinese Sinovac coronavirus vaccine, and subsequently purchased 30 million doses of the vaccine from Pfizer-BioNTech; recently the Turkish government confirmed a contract to acquire 50 million of the Russian vaccine Sputnik V, and is in negotiations with Moderna.
