Fenerbahçe, goal by Serdar Dursun

Serdar Dursun’s hat-trick places Fenerbahçe 2nd in the league

Despite the victory against Rizespor, Fenerbahçe is still 12 points behind league leader, Trabzonspor. Beşiktaş and Galatasaray tied.

Fenerbahçe thrashed Çaykur Rizespor in their Ülker stadium in the match of the 15th round of the Turkish Super League in Istanbul: a result got thanks to a hat-trick by forward Serdar Dursun, who managed to lift the Yellow Canaries to the 2nd place in the league.

The German striker Mërgim Berisha was the author of the goal that opened the scoring after 13 minutes of play when, conveniently positioned in the small area, he masterfully finished off a Rossi’s centre with the head, establishing the 1-0 with with which ended the first 45 minutes of the game.

Dursun, who entered in the 62nd minute, would be the author of no less than three goals for Fener in the second half: in the 70th, he finished off a pass from the left from Szalai under the goal; in 79, with a right kick from outside the area that went through the left post like a thunderbolt while Rizespor’s goalkeeper, Gökhan Akkan, watched with impotence; and in the 90, again with an assist from Szalai and in a practically similar play, before a rival defence that practically waited to watch how Dursun and Szalai finished them off.

The result could have been even bigger, since in the 71st a goal by the Uruguayan Diego Rossi that the referee had initially conceded, was minutes later annulled by the VAR; even so, the win was only a reflection of the almost absolute dominance during the match of the team led by the Portuguese Vítor Pereira, which literaly crushed the modest Rizespor, who occupies the last place in the standings.

After the victory achieved in Istanbul, the first time this season in which Fenerbahçe scored 4 goals (thanks to Serdar Dursun’s hat-trick), the Canaries managed to move up two places compared to last week to reach the second spot in the league, although still a long way from this season’s undisputed leader, Trabzonspor, who remain 12 points away. For their part, Beşiktaş and Galatasaray tied their respective games and both move up one place, but are still far from the top positions.
