Despite facing at home a team in the bottom of the league and having one more player on the field, Galatasaray could not win the match.
Galatasaray failed to get past the draw and was about to lose the last match of the 9th week of the Turkish league played against Hes Kablo Kayserispor, who occupies direct relegation places in the table: and that despite the fact that Kayseri’s team played a good part of the second half of the match with one less player.
The Lions hosted Kayserispor at the Türk Telekom stadium in Istanbul on Monday night: a team relegated “de facto” last season to the second division but which remains in the first category of Turkish football after the decision of the TFF to play this season of the Turkish league with 21 teams due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The home team was the first to take the lead on the scoreboard, although this would have to wait until the second half of the game, when in the 63rd minute the VAR awarded Galata a penalty after Muğdat Çelik’s tackle on Martin Linnes that cost him his second yellow and therefore the expulsion, leaving Kayseri’s team with one less player for the rest of the match.
The one in charge of transforming the penalty would be the Senegalese striker Mbaye Diagne, who masterfully deceived the Romanian goalkeeper Silviu Lung by setting the 1-0 in favor for the team led by Fatih Terim. However, less than 10 minutes later, in the 70th game, the Brazilian midfielder Gustavo Campanharo launched a right kick from outside the area taking advantage of a rejection by the Galata defence, that left Fatih Öztürk K.O. and achieving thus the tie.
Despite facing one of the teams in the relegation zone and having a numerical advantage, the Istanbul team was unable to prevail and modify the result in the remaining 20 minutes of play, so the clash ended in a distribution of points that anyway allows Galatasaray to remain 3rd in the clasification with 17 to their credit, 3 points behind Alanyaspor and Fenerbahçe, first and second in the table respectively.
