Fenerbahçe, Michy's goal in the league

Fenerbahçe triumphs in Ankara and snatches 2nd place from Beşiktaş

Fenerbahçe’s victory in Ankara puts it 2nd in the league, after Beşiktaş drew against Trabzonspor in Istanbul.

Fenerbahçe returned from Ankara with a clear triumph under its belt, thus managing to snatch 2nd place in the league from Beşiktaş, who drew at home against defending league champions Trabzonspor during round 10 of the Turkish Super League.

The match played on Monday against MKE Ankaragücü at the Eryaman stadium in the Turkish capital began with a heartfelt remembrance from the players and the public for the 41 miners who died on Friday in an explosion at a Bartın mine. When the match started, the team from Istanbul scored a goal when only 3 minutes had passed: the Belgian striker Michy Batshuayi finished off a free kick with a hurried kick, and almost under the goalposts.

After this goal, the earliest scored by the Canaries this season, Ankaragücü tried to make a quick comeback supported by its fans, but without success thanks to the dominance of Fenerbahçe, who in minute 25 would also widen the difference to 0-2 with a goal by the Turkish midfielder İrfan Kahveci, who struck down the local goalkeeper, Gökhan Akkan, from outside the area after a pass from Valencia.

The score with which the second half of the match began seemed to herald a clear dominance by Fenerbahçe; however, the first 15-20 minutes of the second half were more even, with Ankaragücü defending well behind and creating some dangerous chances for the rival goal. Finally, it would be Fener’s Uruguayan striker Diego Rossi, who had come on in the 66th minute, who, after the 90 minutes had ended, would establish the final 0-3, finishing off in the small area a play from the left wing by Miguel Crespo da Silva.

With this result, Fenerbahçe manages to add 20 points and snatch the 2nd place in the Süper Lig classification from Beşiktaş, which falls to 4th place. Galatasaray, who suffered a defeat in Kayseri and has not won a game since September 16, drop to 7th place in the league, led for another week by Adana Demirspor.
