Beşiktaş adds the Turkish Cup to its League title

The Istanbul team managed to win the Turkish Cup after beating Antalyaspor in the final, just 3 days after becoming league champion.

Beşiktaş achieved the double this season by getting the Turkish Cup last night, after winning 2-0 in the final of the Ziraat Cup last night at the Göztepe Gürsel Aksel stadium in İzmir, against Fraport TAV Antalyaspor.

A goal by Josef de Souza – only 3 minutes after the match had started – after a poor retention by Ruud Boffin, the Belgian goalkeeper of Antalyaspor, put the Black Eagles ahead on the scoreboard. Later in the 30th minute, Valentin Rosier managed to enter the area after a magnificent pass from Ghezzal and beat Boffin with a powerful right shoot that inevitably sneaked into the net, establishing the 2-0.

The Antalya team would not stop trying its best for the rest of the game, but bad luck and the interventions of the Turkish goalkeeper Utku Yuvakuran prevented it; in this way, Beşiktaş – who reached a Cup final for the 16th time – managed to win their 10th Turkish Cup: an achievement that was celebrated by the players of the Istanbul club, despite the fact that the match was played practically without audience due to the pandemic.

Upon learning of the team’s victory, Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan congratulated the club through social media: “I congratulate the Beşiktaş football club and the entire Beşiktaş family, who have won the Turkish Cup Ziraat 2021,” Erdoğan wrote on Twitter.

With this title, Beşiktaş manages to with two titles this season; in addition to winning the Turkish Cup, the team led by Sergen Yalçın was proclaimed league champion for the 2020-2021 season on Saturday by just one goal difference against its main rival, Galatasaray.
