A well-known successful businesswoman from the Turkish city of Kayseri, Gözbaşı has received unanimous support from the board of directors of the Kayserispor football club, following the resignation of the previous president.
Berna Gözbaşı has become the first woman in the history of Turkey to be elected president of a football club of the Turkish league’s first division, the Süper Lig, and she has been elected unanimously of the board of directors.
Gözbaşı, who had previously served as an advisor and member of the board of directors of Kayserispor, was elected on Friday as the new president in office of the club following the resignation of the previous president -Hamdi Elcuman- because of the club’s poor results in the Turkish Super League, where it occupies the bottom position and has only won 1 of the 11 matches played this season, curiously against one of the greats of the league, Fenerbahçe.
After receiving the unanimous support of the rest of the members of the board of directors of the club, Gözbaşı will act as acting president of the Kayserispor until next November 30th the club holds an extraordinary assembly; if she receives enough support, she’ll be able to continue as a new president.

At the moment Gözbaşı, who has already submitted his candidacy for the extraordinary assembly, has many possibilities to win and has received unanimous support from the board of directors of Kayserispor, that in a statement wished her success and said she has the “support of all the city”.
A well-known Kayseri successful businesswoman, Gözbaşı has a degree in business sciences and in 2001 created her own private company; currently, her company exports to 60 countries around the world, for which she has received numerous awards for his business activity. Before becoming the first female president of a Turkish football club, Gözbaşı was already – and is – the first female member of the Kayseri’s Chamber of Industry.
