Demba Ba was the protagonist of a match after which the Istanbul team is still the league leader for 3rd week. Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray drew, and Beşiktaş won by the minimum to the penultimate ranked.
The Başakşehir of Istanbul prevailed with a resounding result in its visit to the city of İzmir, which together with the draw of the Trabzonspor allows it to continue for third consecutive weekend at the head of the Turkish Super League, while the other great clubs of Istanbul however are not doing well at all.
The match played at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium in İzmir was not easy for the new leader of the Turkish league, which during the first part faced a local team that, wrapped up by its fans, came out willing to face the team headed by Okan Buruk. However, 40 minutes of play had elapsed when Demba Ba appeared in the small area and made a nice shot in the midfield from the right wing, setting 0-1.
The goal seemed to hurt Göztepe and gave wings to the Istanbul’s team, which already in the first minutes of the second half had a couple of good occasions in which again Demba Ba and the Bosnian striker Edin Višća were protagonists. Ba would in fact intervene in a play to the counter in the 57th minute, giving the pass of goal to his teammate Enzo Crivelli.
A direct red left the Istanbul team in numerical inferiority
With a 0-2 against it, Göztepe seemed to gain strength from weakness and, despite playing defensively, tried to overcome the score or at least reduce differences; it was just during a dangerous solo break from Jerome in the 82nd minute when Epureanu, watching that the English was winning the race, resorted to trip up him and therefore received a direct red card that left the Başakşehir with one less player on the field.
The local team tried to take advantage of this numerical superiority to increase the pressure on the goal defended by Mert Günok, but players wre tired and the clock ran against Göztepe. Finally, at the discount time, Ba picked up a Günok´s throw-in to the centre of the field and handed the ball down the right wing to İrfan Kahveci, who practically alone cheated the goalkeeper and with a left-footed shot set the final 0-3.
This result allows Başakşehir to remain for third weekend as leader of a classification that remains immovable, after its close rivals could not win their games, including the match between Sivasspor with Galatasaray. Fenerbahçe also had to accept a draw achieved in the discount, while only Beşiktaş got a victory… but against the penultimate classified.
